Viktor & Rolf’s Spicebomb line has been running since 2012, oriental spicy compositions built around Fabien Baron’s grenade-shaped bottle. Metallic Musk is the newest addition, launched in 2025 by Jean-Christophe Hérault (Carlos Benaim gets a co-credit depending which press release you read). Eau de parfum. Top notes of aldehydes, black pepper, elemi, and bergamot. Heart of cinnamon, pepper, and lavender. Base of white musk, leather, ambrette, and labdanum. The bottle got a semi-transparent glow-up for this release, still a bit gimmicky, but that’s never really why anyone buys a fragrance.

Store test, not a blind buy. I smelled it in passing, liked it, and went back a couple more times just to spray it and see how it actually behaved on my own skin chemistry rather than off a blotter. That’s usually the right call with anything built around pepper and musk, since both notes shift depending on the skin underneath them.
On the Skin
The opening is pepper-forward, properly so. There’s a flash of grapefruit under it, something fresh riding along with the musk and aldehydes, and then the metallic edge everyone talks about. It’s restrained, not a knife-edge of metal, more a tinge, and I happen to like that tinge specifically. It’s the black pepper and spice that pull me in though. That’s the part of this that overlaps with why I keep coming back to Middle Eastern spice-heavy compositions in general. Clean, but not clean the way most fresh fragrances are clean. Soapy scents usually go either powdery or citrusy to keep that freshness. This one does neither.
It settles from there into spice, pepper, and musk, and stays roughly there. Not a fully linear scent, but it doesn’t move far from where it starts either. By the end it’s a subtle pepper note sitting on a musk-and-aldehyde base that keeps the whole thing clean rather than dirty.
Performance
Genuinely strong. Five sprays in the morning and I can still pick up that base when I get home, eight-plus hours later. Projection is the more interesting part: not a skin scent, but not a nuclear blast either. Refined is the right word. There’s presence without anyone needing to lean in.
The Verdict
Full price, no. Discounted, yes, easily. I picked up the 90ml from Perfume Dreams for 63 euros with a discount code, and that made the decision easy. I don’t know of a real dupe for this one. I already own Spicebomb Extreme, and I’ll keep reaching for both, but Metallic Musk is the better scent for autumn specifically. Extreme is a heavier, more traditional spices, still very much recommended, just not the one that fits the autumn months the way this does.
I reach for it once temperatures drop below 15 to 18 degrees, sun depending. Fall and winter mainly, early spring too, since the pepper carries it through the cooler mornings. It’s become an easy daily wear for the office and for everyday cold-weather use, which is not a small thing for a fragrance to become.
